Target Audience: Intermediate to advanced classical guitar students, conservatory-level players, and emerging professionals

Session 1: Foundations of Sound & Technique

Objective: Refine the physical and tonal fundamentals of classical guitar playing.

  • Introduction to Andreas’s musical philosophy and influences
  • Right-hand tone production: apoyando vs. tirando
  • Left-hand efficiency and precision
  • Nail shaping and maintenance for tone quality
  • Exercises from Villa-Lobos, Giuliani, Sor and Andreas’s personal practice regimen
  • Q&A: “What makes a beautiful sound?”

 

Session 2: The Singing Guitar – Phrasing & Expression

Objective: Develop musical phrasing that reflects the lyrical potential of the guitar.

  • Breath and direction in melodic lines
  • Articulation, rubato, and dynamics as expressive tools
  • Analysis and performance of work of choice
  • Phrasing masterclass: live performance critiques

 

Session 3: Turn a study into a musical piece

  • Based on a study of choice selected by the student

 

Session 4: Repertoire Deep Dive – Baroque to Modern

Objective: Explore interpretation styles across historical periods.

  • Stylistic nuances: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century
  • Ornamentation and voicing in Bach and Scarlatti
  • Modern sound worlds: Britten, Takemitsu, Brouwer
  • Case study: Andreas Moutsoulis performs and deconstructs a signature piece
  • Student repertoire coaching and feedback

 

Session 5: Mind and Body – Practice, Performance, and Stagecraft

Objective: Build a sustainable and effective approach to practicing and performing.

  • Structuring efficient practice sessions
  • Overcoming performance anxiety and stage presence
  • Memory techniques: visualization, tactile memory, and analysis
  • Warm-up and injury prevention routines
  • Andreas’s personal performance preparation process

 

Session 6: Technique Lab – Mastering the Details

Objective: Dive deep into advanced technical skills and problem-solving.

  • Tremolo, arpeggios, rasgueado, slurs, harmonics
  • Left-hand shifts and barre clarity
  • Speed and accuracy training (with metronome and rhythm exercises)
  • Students present technical challenges for live feedback (based on selected repertoire by the student

 

Session 7: Artistic Identity & Career in Classical Guitar

Objective: Inspire students to find their unique voice and path as artists.

  • Andreas Moutsoulis’s journey as a concert artist and educator
  • Choosing repertoire to reflect your artistic identity
  • Recording, competitions, and programming strategies
  • Final recital: Student performances with critique
